Soon, you’ll no longer have to manually enter the codes you received from Mail or delete them, as iOS 17 will take care of these things for you.
iOS 17 is really an exciting update. And while some of the additions in the update are nothing huge, they might still improve your iOS experience. One included in that section is the new “Clean Up Automatically” toggle button in the Settings app of iOS 17 beta that should now automatically delete the codes you received through Mail and Messages once they are used for auto-filling. With this, you no longer need to leave Safari to get the codes.
The same capability was introduced to Android users in India in 2021, but it would take 24 hours before the codes are deleted. Apple, meanwhile, is taking a different approach by removing them immediately to better assure the security of users.
Speaking of security, the company also announced that in iOS 17 (and so as macOS Sonoma and iPadOS 17), a new Family Sharing feature in Safari is expected to arrive to allow easier sharing of passkeys with family and trusted friends. This will be possible via the improvement in the iCloud Keychain.
Apple said that though it is called “Family Passwords,” users can share it with anyone they trust. “For easier and more secure password and passkeys sharing, users can share passwords with a group of trusted contacts,” the company explained. “Everyone in the group can add and edit passwords to keep them up to date. Since sharing is through iCloud Keychain, it’s end-to-end encrypted.”
