There may be different reasons that cause grayed out optional diagnostic data option. We will see the different methods to turn it back on and then you can select it to opt-in for the windows insider program.

Method 1 – Enable “Connected User Experiences and Telemetry” from the service tool.

  • Step1: Press Windows Key + R button to open the Run window.
  • Step2: Type services.msc
  • Step3: From the services window, search for the option called “Connected User Experiences and Telemetry“.enable connected user experience and telemetry 1
  • Step4: Double click on this option and select “Automatic” in Startup Type.enable connected user experience and telemetry
  • Step5: Also, click on the Start button to start the service.
  • Step6: Click on the OK button to save the changes.

  • Step3: From the services window, search for the option called “Device Management Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Push message Routing Service
  • Step4: Double click on this option and select “Automatic” in Startup Type.enable device management wireless application protocol
  • Step5: Also, click on the Start button to start the service.
  • Step6: Click on the OK button to save the changes.

Restart your PC once and check if you can turn on Optional Diagnostic Data option. If the problem still persists, you can head over to the next solution.

Method 4 – How to turn on Optional Diagnostic Data in Windows 10 by using registry editor tool.

  • Step1: Press Windows Key + R button to open the Run window.
  • Step2: Type regedit.
  • Step3: Then go the following path by opening the folder one by one, OR you can copy-paste this path directly in the address bar of the registry editor tool.
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection
  • Step4: Then right-click on the AllowTelemetry option and delete it.delete allowtelemetry from registry editor
